When I was a child I used to get motion sickness very easily, whether travelling by bus, car, ferry or train. My family tried many different techniques to improve my feeling sick, from pressure points to sucking mints. Some things worked better than others and when I was 12 we took a night ferry for the first time I took medication to prevent me from becoming travel sick. It worked and I enjoyed the journey, although the rest of my family got travel sick and on the return journey we all took the medicine!
Since learning to drive I have found car and bus journeys much easier, although it is always better if I sit in the front seat. Train journeys are a little different, once I’m on (or off) the train I am fine, but I’m always nervous of the gap between the platform and the train when alighting. I find watching the scenery pass while travelling by train very relaxing and prefer travelling through countryside in this way.
Despite my sometimes crippling fear of heights, my favourite way to travel is by helicopter, closely followed by plane. I have only been in a helicopter a few times, but I have loved the experience. Have you ever been in a helicopter? Did you like it?
